Sister – 48 Hour Film Project 2009

Filed under: Video blog — Leslye @ 11:55 pm

This was a tough year for me for the 48 Hour Film Project. New city, new team, new actors. And to top it all off, I picked the genre horror. Not my favorite. I think we had a good story that was a little too complicated to tell properly in the time allotted. And I had to change some things during filming.

Also, my camera stopped working after about 3 hours of shooting. My theory is that a bug crawled into the tape transport (I’d been flicking them off the camera all morning). That little disaster caused an early lunch while I went home to regroup. Thankfully, a tape cleaning cassette and a little shaking did the trick and we were back on track by the afternoon.

Overall, it was as good a weekend as any. I felt a bit brain dead during the process and I don’t feel like I brought my ‘A’ game, but I had a great team and everyone worked really hard. Enjoy!

I’m updating my blog with something old (or maybe new to you) because Jared keeps falling asleep when I want to record a new movie review. (We’ve had some very interesting movie experiences lately). At any rate, with the wedding last year, and living in Norfolk this year, I haven’t done the 48 Hour Film Project in 2 years. I’m hoping to either have a team or at least join a team for the Virginia Beach version, which should be later this summer. Provided, of course, I can round up/meet anyone interested down here. For nostalgia’s sake, here is my last 48 Hour Film (from 2007), for your enjoyment.

Our late night post film wrap ups continue with two of the summer’s latest blockbusters. Summary: skip the mutants, but Star Trek is a must see.

Movie Review: The Soloist

Filed under: Reviews, Video blog — Leslye @ 12:34 am

Jared and I see a lot of movies, so we decided to try our hand at reviewing them. Of course we decided to review it once we got home and it was fresh in our minds, which meant that Jared was basically asleep. (Kind of like how he was during the actual movie – sigh.)

*For those that don’t know – Jareslye is a combination of our names, Jared and Leslye. You know like Bragelina, or whatever, because we’re obviously fabulous superstars.

Resurrection

Filed under: Life — Leslye @ 5:59 pm

In honor of Easter, which was also the day after our 6 month wedding anniversary (lunaversary?) I think it may be a good time to resurrect the site. There’s lots of catching up to do, and since I haven’t gotten around to dealing with the wedding video, here are the wedding photos. Baby steps, y’all baby steps… (I just finished sending the thank you notes out – sigh! – so you see this is actually a giant teenager step!) And how did I mysteriously get signed up for The Nest magazine, from the folks who bring you TheKnot.com?? It’s sort of a Real Simple for newlyweds, or should I say new wives (like any husband would ever read either of them – hrmph!) The worst thing about it is that we now live in an apartment building in Norfolk that doesn’t recycle (I mean seriously). Whenever we move, that will be a new criterion to add to my list. So every week we lug some portion of our trash out to the community recycling dumpsters, which fortunately, are just a few blocks away – and unfortunately don’t take magazines. So now I’m at a loss as to how to recycle all of the crazy catalogs, unwanted magazines and various other junk mail. I’ve been keeping them stacked in these bins in the living room, but that solution isn’t going to work much longer in our 1000 sq ft apartment. Just one more thing to love about Virginia and all of the earth-hating Republicans who live here…

On another note, I’m really interested in book trailers these days, I think it’s an interesting art form. I wonder if I can make a trailer for a book I haven’t written yet? Could be interesting…

I’m taking an ASL (American Sign Language) class at a local community college. I took a year of sign language in high school, and ever since then I’ve wanted to become an interpreter. When I get tired of designing websites, that will be my next career, or co-career. Who knows? Now I’m finally starting down the path… This video was for my ASL 1 class. I plan to post a subtitled version too, check it out and see if you can follow….

Update… below is the subtitled version, enjoy!
